Wade 1916.1047 With its quiet water and sky, fluffy trees, and other foliage flecked with light, this picture exemplifies the style that won Corot success with a wide public. It was painted during the artist's stay at Arras (about 100 miles north of Paris) in 1871. Corot began his career as a draper and his exposure to the colors and textures of fabrics helped him develop an astute aesthetic sense.
