Parade Partisan (from the Bodyguard of August Wilhelm, Duke of Brunswick- Wolfenbüttel [1662-1731]), 1718. Germany, 18th century. Blued, etched and gilded steel, wooden haft with orginal steel base spike, silk tassel with alternating blue and gold bands; overall: 258.5 cm (101 3/4 in.). The Cleveland Museum of Art, Alma Kroeger Fund 2007.165 Partisans were popular weapons before firearms.
