Horse Head, 700s BC. Italy, Villanova, Etruscan. Terracotta; overall: 8.1 x 6 x 1.9 cm (3 3/16 x 2 3/8 x 3/4 in.). The Cleveland Museum of Art, Gift of Keith P. Smith 1985.178 Probably mold-made, this terracotta horse head is finely modeled in high relief, its burnished surface embellished with carefully rendered details such as a textured mane and bared teeth. The backside of this horse head is unworked.
