Yu-hai (Ocean of Jade) woodblock bound volume, 1368–1644. China, Ming dynasty (1368–1644). Woodblock-printed book with painted edges; overall: 26.6 x 16.8 cm (10 1/2 x 6 5/8 in.). The Cleveland Museum of Art, Gift of Mrs. Martin M. Reed 1975.254 When each book is rolled to form a cylinder, a landscape appears on the edges, painted in ink and washes of color.
