Spoon, 300s. Byzantium, Syria?, early Byzantine period, 4th century. Silver; overall: 15 cm (5 7/8 in.). The Cleveland Museum of Art, John L. Severance Fund 1952.6 The handle of this spoon is delicately detailed with beaded ornament while its handle twists, ending in a sharp point. Timeless in design, this spoon would not seem out of place in a modern table setting.
