Warin, Jean
French sculptor and medalist, 1607-1672
Jean Warin, also caled Varin, was born in Liège but moved to France by 1625. In France, he established himself at the preminent medalist. He was made 'Tailleur Général des Monnaies de France' and 'Contrôleur Général des Poinçons et Effigies des Monnaies de France.' In 1665 he became a member of the 'Académie Royale de Peinture et de Sculpture, for which he engraved the die for their seal. He was also known as a painter of portraits, however none of these survive.
