Takeuchi Seihō

Japanese painter, 1864-1942

Born in Kyoto, Takeuchi began studying painting at fourteen under a teacher of the Shijō school. He was part of a movement to revive Japanese-style painting in Kyoto. He began teaching at the Kyoto Municipal School of Art in 1805. He travelled to Paris in 1900, and was influenced by the work of Turner and Corot.
