Sutcliffe, Frank Meadow

English photographer, 1853-1941

Sutcliffe took up photography in 1871. From 1872 to 1873 he photographed the castles and abbeys of Yorkshire, England for Francis Frith. In 1875, Sutcliffe opened a portrait studio in Whitby, North Yorkshire, England. He specialized in commercial portraiture, but also photographed landscape views, port scenes, and genre scenes. Sutcliffe was a founding member of The Linked Ring, a group of pictorialist photographers based in London in 1892.
