German painter, typographer, and writer, 1887-1948

Born 20 June 1887; died 8 January 1948. Schwitters was a Dadaist who associated with the Bauhaus School at Weimar, Germany and with the "de Stijl" group in the Netherlands. Schwitters experimented with light graphics, or cameraless imagery, in the 1920s. Schwitters was a member of the 'ring neue werbegestalter' in the 1920s in Germany. He created assemblages called 'merz' from bits of urban detritus and found objects. German artist.
