South Netherlandish painter of German origin. The earliest record of Hans Memling is his registration on 30 January 1465 as a citizen of Bruges, under the name of Jan van Mimnelinghe.Together with Dieric Bouts I and Hugo van der Goes, he was a primary exponent of the new artistic developments that flourished in the southern Netherlands in the 15th century.
