Maker/Artist
Lucas van Leyden
Netherlandish printmaker, painter, ca. 1494-1533
Lucas was a prolific and influential printmaker. His early prints show the influence of his slightly older German contemporary, Albrecht Dürer. His work after 1525 is influenced by the Italian Renaissance, which reached Lucas through the prints by Marcantonio Raimondi and the work of Jan Gossart. Lucas was also a painter and an exceptionally talented draftsman.
