Dufy, Raoul

French painter, designer, and ceramicist, 1877-1953

Dufy trained at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts and became associated with the artists that became the Fauves. After coming under the influence of Cézanne and early Cubism, Dufy's paintings became infused with bright colors, which he then carried over to book illustrations and his designs for the stage. In 1952 he won the International Painting Prize at the Venice Biennale. Comment on works: abstract
