Du Camp, Maxime
French author and photographer, 1822-1894, active in the Middle East and Africa
Born 8 February 1822; died 9 February 1894. Du Camp learned the calotype process from Gustave Le Gray in 1849. From 1849 to 1851 Du Camp, accompanied by Gustave Flaubert, photographed Egypt, Nubia, Palestine, and Syria. In 1852 Blanquart-Evrard published the album of photographs from this trip. This album was the first devoted to views of the Middle East and an inventory of its monuments.
