Dixon, Nicholas
English painter and miniaturist, active ca. 1660-1665, died after 1707
Dixon was limner to Charles II, succeeding Samuel Cooper. In his work he used Peter Lely's mannerism of drawing his sitters' eyes with a languorous half-closed look. Dixon, along with Peter Cross, continued the 17th-century method of stippling on vellum, derived from the work of John Hoskins, into the early 18th century.
