Clodion
French sculptor, 1738-1814
Clodion is considered the greatest master of lyrical small-scale sculpture active in France in the later 18th century, successfully transitioning through the decline of the Rococo, the rise of Romanticism, and the upheavals of the Revolution. He is known for his statuettes and terracotta figures and groups, often of lighthearted classical subjects. After the Revolution he changed his style to suit the prevalent Neoclassical taste. He worked on the Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel. Clodion's works in terracotta are still subjects of unresolved problems, including questions of attribution and chronology. French sculptor.
