Brodovitch, Alexey
Russian photographer and magazine art director, 1898-1971, active in the United States
Brodovitch fought in World War I with the Russian army, and was in Paris from 1920-1930. He later became the art director at Harper's Bazaar 1934-1958. He acted as teacher and mentor in his Design Laboratory in New York City 1936-1959. He published 'Ballet,' a book of his own photographs in 1945. His integration of photography, typography, text, and use of double-page spread compositions at Harper's Bazaar were influential in the world of graphic design and magazine publishing.
