Bose, Nandalal

Indian painter and teacher, 1882-1966

Bose was a student of Abanindranath Tagore and a close associate of Rabindranath Tagore. He was an influential teacher, setting up an art school in Shantiniketan in Bengal that became the most vital center of modern Indian art in the 1930s and 1940s. In his later work, Bose was inspired by Gandhi and collaborated with craftsmen and worked with indigenous materials.
