Alland, Alexander
American photographer of Ukrainian birth, 1902-1989
Born 6 August 1902. In 1920, Alland was an apprentice to a photographer in Constantinople, Turkey. He ran a portrait studio in that city until 1922. In 1923, Alland emigrated to New York City, New York, United States. From 1936, Alland worked in New York City as a freelance photographer producing photo murals. From 1940 to 1944, Alland was employed as a photographic technician at the United States War Department.
