Three quarter length portrait of the Emperor Muhammad Shah. The emperor holds a flower, his other hand being on the hilt of his sword; he is shown in an oval like a European miniature. This is an example of the late Mughal school of Murshidabad showing some influence from European models without having become a fully-fledged example of Company painting. It is evidently from a set of emperor portraits, such as were ordered by both European and Indian patrons.
