Robe, early 1800s. Japan, Edo period (1615-1868). Banana cloth, tabby weave; overall: 124.5 x 129.5 cm (49 x 51 in.). The Cleveland Museum of Art, Gift of Mrs. Arthur St. John Newberry 1917.384 This robe was produced in the Ryukyu Islands, a chain of islands between Kyushu and Taiwan.
