Indian Basket Lamp , c. 1902–10. Tiffany Studios (American, New York, 1902–1932). Leaded glass, gilt bronze; diameter: 31.6 cm (12 7/16 in.); overall: 43.5 cm (17 1/8 in.). The Cleveland Museum of Art, Bequest of Charles Maurer 2018.276 An admirer of Native American art, Louis Comfort Tiffany amassed a personal collection of textiles, baskets, and pottery, from which he and his designers drew inspiration. He was particularly interested in the way basket weavers formed their patterns using geometric grids, a look he re-created in designs for lamps, such as the Indian Basket lamp. This lamp features dichroic glass, which appears green in reflected light but glows amber when illuminated.
