Lives I've Never Lived, 1976. Abe Frajndlich (American, b.1946). Gelatin silver print; image: 35.6 x 45.7 cm (14 x 18 in.). The Cleveland Museum of Art, Gift of Herbert Ascherman, Jr. 2022.122 When Minor White taught a photography workshop in Cleveland around 1970, Abe Frajndlich was so impressed that he moved to Massachusetts to become a live-in student in White’s home. He stayed there on and off for the next 6 years. After White suffered this third heart attack, the two spent a year collaborating on a book project comprising a group of portraits that Frajndlich took of his mentor in and around his home. This image became the book’s cover. The man depicted here is the renowned, influential photographer Minor White (1908-1976).
