In works such as this one, she played on the boundaries of creating an object and representing an image by adding three-dimensional decoration to printed silhouettes. The embroidery seen here had domestic, feminine associations that countered the masculine form, which the artist associated with alienation. From the time she created this print in the 1960s, Liliana Porter has continued to incorporate string into her work in a variety of ways.
