The Cleveland Museum of Art, Gift of the Print Club of Cleveland in honor of Joan Brickley 2018.256 Dorothy Dehner was among the few women who were part of the New York School, credited with inventing Abstract Expressionism. She made this work after studying at Atelier 17, a printmaking studio where female artists were encouraged to experiment with materials and technique. Dehner wiped, brushed, and dribbled colored ink onto a printing plate, recording the process of creating this monotype, a unique print. The artist brushed, wiped, and dribbled ink onto a printing plate to make this work.
