A Warrior Mounting a Held Horse: Saindhava Ragaputra of Shri, from a Chamba Ragamala, c. 1675. Northern India, Himachal Pradesh, Pahari Kingdom of Chamba. Gum tempera and gold on paper; page: 25.7 x 18.8 cm (10 1/8 x 7 3/8 in.); image: 20.8 x 14.5 cm (8 3/16 x 5 11/16 in.). The Cleveland Museum of Art, Purchase and partial gift from the Catherine and Ralph Benkaim Collection; Severance and Greta Millikin Purchase Fund 2018.90 The artist has captured the scene of a noble warrior mounting his steed. Clad in a royal jama and striped trousers, he places his left foot on the stirrup as he holds the two ends of the saddle to hoist himself. His groom stands humbly behind him, admiring the heroic posture of the warrior. The warrior tucked the end of his tunic into his belt, showing the red lining.
