Railing for the Cleveland Play House, c. 1927. Rose Iron Works (American, Cleveland, est. 1904). Wrought iron, brass; 81.3 x 208.3 x 32.4 cm (32 x 82 x 12 3/4 in.). The Cleveland Museum of Art, Leonard C. Hanna, Jr. Fund 2020.219 © Rose Iron Works Collections, LLC Rose Iron Works produced traditional styles of wrought iron before venturing into more modern designs. This railing for the Cleveland Play House reflects the mid-18th-century French Rococo taste with a modern adaptation of traditionalist styles, particularly seen in the emblazoned monogram of the owner. Its open, airy composition disguises the incredible technique that was required to achieve such lyrical lines.
