Severance Fund 2014.11.b © The Estate of Robert Morris / Artists Rights Society (ARS), New York In this sculpture Robert Morris uses a large piece of industrial felt material, curling and affixing two corners to create a neat geometric form from the soft, heavy material. Untitled is part of a larger series of sculptures the artist created in the spirit of the “anti-form”—works that depart from the rigid, hard edges of Minimalist sculpture. Morris noted that “Felt has anatomical associations, it relates to the body—it’s skinlike.” In April 1968, Robert Morris published an article entitled "Anti-Form" in the prestigious international contemporary art magazine Artforum, coining the term and encouraging other artists to embrace the element of chance in their installations.
