S-Shaped Fibula, 500s. Alemannic, 6th century. Silver gilt with garnets and niello; overall: 2.2 x 1.6 x 0.8 cm (7/8 x 5/8 x 5/16 in.). The Cleveland Museum of Art, Gift of Joe Hatzenbuehler 2007.226 This fibula is attributed to the Alemanni, meaning "all men," who got their name from being a group of many Germanic tribes.
