Pot, c. 1955. Peter Voulkos (American, 1924–2002). Stoneware; overall: 30.6 x 21.9 x 19.3 cm (12 1/16 x 8 5/8 x 7 5/8 in.). The Cleveland Museum of Art, Bequest of Charles J. Lakofsky 1994.120 Sculptor and ceramicist Peter Voulkos produced this vessel the year after he established the ceramics program at the Los Angeles County Art Institute. The vessel is decorated with two faces, a recurring motif in Voulkos's work during this time.
