Bowl with Bats and Floral Scrolls, 1736–95. China, Qing dynasty (1644-1911), Qianlong reign (1736-95). Canton enamel; diameter: 17.6 cm (6 15/16 in.); overall: 7.8 cm (3 1/16 in.). The Cleveland Museum of Art, Bequest of Mrs. Severance A. Millikin 1989.320 The bat is a lucky symbol as the Chinese word for bat, 蝠 fú, is pronounced the same as “good fortune” 福.
