Plum Blossom Cup, 1621–27. China, Jiangxi province, Jingdezhen kilns, "Transitional period", Ming dynasty (1368-1644), Tianqi reign (1621-1627). Porcelain with underglaze blue and wucai (five color) overglaze enamel decoration; overall: 6.7 x 12.6 cm (2 5/8 x 4 15/16 in.). The Cleveland Museum of Art, Bequest of Mrs. Severance A. Millikin 1989.295 This porcelain cup is considered to have been made in the "Transitional period," a term used to define the period between about 1620 and 1683 when official kilns in Jingdezhen were no longer under imperial supervision due to the transition from the Ming to the Qing dynasties.
