Chest of Drawers (Commode), c. 1750– 1765. Probably by Adrien Faizelot Delorme (French). Oak, black lacquer with raised chinoiserie decoration, gilt metal mounts, marble top; overall: 89.6 x 128.3 x 81.9 cm (35 1/4 x 50 1/2 x 32 1/4 in.). The Cleveland Museum of Art, Bequest of Mrs. Severance A. Millikin 1989.159 Although this chest of drawers was made in France, its decoration is an imitation of Chinese lacquer, which reflects European perceptions of East Asia at the time.
