Panel with Hunters and Camel and Inscription, 1900s. Iran. Silk: lampas weave; overall: 101.5 x 43 cm (39 15/16 x 16 15/16 in.). The Cleveland Museum of Art, Purchase from the J. H. Wade Fund 1988.99 On the upper part of the fragment, a kneeling archer aims to the left. On the opposite side of a tree, another archer aims toward a camel. The animal’s mouth is open with its tongue extended in surprise as a large feline pounces on its back.
The Arabic inscription along the left edge gives a spurious date and name of the purported maker.
