Bowl with Peonies, 1662–1722. China, Jiangxi province, Jingdezhen kilns, Qing dynasty (1644-1911), Kangxi mark and reign (1661-1722). Porcelain with foreign color (yangcai) overglaze enamel decoration; diameter: 12.4 cm (4 7/8 in.); overall: 6.2 cm (2 7/16 in.). The Cleveland Museum of Art, Severance and Greta Millikin Collection 1964.198 This bowl was made at the Jingdezhen kilns and then decorated probably in the Imperial Palace workshops in Beijing. In East Asian art, peonies traditionally symbolize prosperity and wealth.
