Bottle, 1963. Howard William Kottler (American, 1930–1989). Stoneware; overall: 48.3 cm (19 in.); diameter of base: 64.2 cm (25 1/4 in.). The Cleveland Museum of Art, Gift of the Ohio Northern Chapter of the American Institute of Decorators 1963.269 This bottle was created early in Howard William Kottler's career when he focused on traditional handmade ceramics. Later, Kottler's work would become more conceptual and use mass-produced ceramics. This bottle's misshapen appearance highlights the malleability of clay.
