Bird-Form Bottle, 1959. Leza S. McVey (American, 1907–1984). Glazed ceramic; overall: 36.2 x 15.2 cm (14 1/4 x 6 in.). The Cleveland Museum of Art, The Harold T. Clark Educational Extension Fund 1959.141.a Cleveland sculptor and designer Leza McVey experimented with form and texture, and both are evident in this bottle. The abstracted form of a bird is paired with a volcanic glaze, which gives the surface a pitted and pebbly texture.
