Darkware Vessel, 900–1470. Peru, North Coast, Chimú style (900-1470). Black ware; overall: 20 x 10.3 x 16.6 cm (7 7/8 x 4 1/16 x 6 9/16 in.). The Cleveland Museum of Art, The Norweb Collection 1951.181 Chimú potters fired their vessels in a reduced-oxygen atmosphere to achieve a uniform black surface.
