Jar, AD 222–650. Iran, Sasanian period, 3rd-7th Century. Earthenware; overall: 50.8 cm (20 in.). The Cleveland Museum of Art, Gift of Heeramaneck Galleries 1944.459 Simply decorated with bands of wavy and dotted sawtooth patterns on the neck and shoulder, this large jar features two small handles for lifting and a wide mouth for easy access to its contents. A shiny glaze covers the exterior surface. This large vessel was thrown in three or four sections.
