Portrait of Sandford Peacocke, 1801. William Wood (British, c. 1768–1809). Watercolor on ivory in a gold frame with glazed reverse; framed: 8.6 x 7.3 cm (3 3/8 x 2 7/8 in.); sight: 8 x 6.7 cm (3 1/8 x 2 5/8 in.). The Cleveland Museum of Art, The Edward B. Greene Collection 1942.1159 Sandford Peacocke was married in 1801 and by 1802 was serving in the British military in Jamaica. It may have been for these occasions that the miniature was painted.
