Landscape in the Forest at Compiègne | musefully
Huet, Paul. Landscape in the Forest at Compiègne, 1826-1828. Oil on canvas, 13 x 17 1/8 in. (33 x 43.5 cm). Anonymous gift in honor of Sarah Faunce, Curator of Painting and Sculpture, 1969-98, 1998.78. No known copyright restrictions.
In this image of a densely wooded glade, Huet’s quickly rendered brushstrokes and limited palette bear witness to the immediacy of unedited direct observation. Although Huet traveled extensively throughout France during his career, he found this subject in the forest of Compiègne, near the estate of the aristocratic Orléans family, his longstanding patrons.
