Fung Ming Chip
Asian Art
A self-taught calligrapher, Fung Ming Chip is the rare artist who carves his own seals. He uses seals in unconventional ways, to highlight the abstracted calligraphic forms in his paintings, carving them in unusual forms, like Seal A, which is in the shape of a gourd, or Seal D, where the edges both extend past and are carved into the usual square boundaries. The impressions on the bottoms of the seals are also unusual and do not have the name of the artist, as is traditional. The impression on Seal A reads: “Outside the bustling place” and “Ming Chip.” The impression on Seal D reads: “Alien don’t come close” and “2014 Ming Chip.”
