Asian Art
The artist Senju Hiroshi specializes in large paintings of waterfalls and cliff faces, which he creates using traditional Japanese painting materials that he applies in nontraditional ways. After years of observation and practice, Senju has learned to capture both the dynamics of running water and the atmospheric conditions created by mist. In contrast to traditional ink painting, for his depictions of waterfalls Senju starts with a dark ground, then uses white paint as the medium.
