Sake Cup | musefully
Shigemasa Higashida. Sake Cup, 1990. Glazed stoneware; oribe ware, 2 3/16 x 2 3/4 in. (5.5 x 7 cm). Gift of Shelly and Lester Richter, 2013.83.48. Creative Commons-BY.
Shigemasa Higashida uses the copper-green glaze associated with Oribe wares, but he departs from tradition by covering the entire piece with a thick coating of the glaze and introducing other materials to create swirls of blue. With its rugged outcropping and blue pooling, this tiny cup takes on the quality of a landscape.
