Book of the Dead of Djedkhonsuiuefankh, ca. 945-712 B.C.E.. Papyrus, ink, Sheet: 8 1/16 x 9 3/4 in. (20.5 x 24.7 cm). Charles Edwin Wilbour Fund, 37.1782Ea-g. No known copyright restrictions.
The Book of the Dead provided the spells the deceased must know and recite to speed the journey into the afterlife. This copy was made for a highly placed priest of the god Amun. As with most other examples of The Book of the Dead, only a selection of spells is included here. On the left are Spells 15 and 17. The illustration depicts Djedkhonsuiuefankh before the sun god Re-Hor-akhty. The columns of text in the illustration reveal the god’s greeting to the deceased and the deceased’s name and genealogy.
