This medallion of Neptune, the mythological Roman god of the sea, presided over bathers entering the Washington Baths Annex in Coney Island. Visitors could rent lockers, swimsuits, and umbrellas from the bathhouse, which provided access to the beach and also featured a saltwater pool, a restaurant, solariums, and athletic facilities.
