Jar
last half of 19th century

Asian Art
This jar is typical of later Korean porcelains in its economy of means: the lively phoenix and stylized clouds appear against an undecorated background with no borders except single, thin lines at the top and bottom. The addition of copper-red decoration—a technically difficult effect to achieve—marks this as a more deluxe piece.
